Meet Laura and Lauren...
Laura T. Blind is an outdoor educator with more than three decades of experience teaching preschool through graduate-level students about nature. Hers is a life of wild stories that show what’s possible when you trade a “safe” life for one of adventure.
Lauren B. Bontrager is a certified wellness coach and health education specialist who helps people live healthier lives, build richer marriages, and create more connected families. Wife and mother of an active 2 year old son, she and Todd are constantly learning how to better parent in these times and to savor the journey. We are honored to be invited into your life to share the skills and knowledge we have gained through our experiences. Our prayer is that you experience the love and power of God at this retreat in a way that is truly life-changing. May your heart be ignited with a refreshing, renewed perspective on life and parenting. May you realize you're not alone in wanting and working tirelessly at creating a better life for your children. May you find that community around you who has that same heartbeat---to give our children the gift of a healthy, natural childhood. |

Thriving in a digitally-invaded world
Is this retreat for you?
- Are you very concerned (and ready to do something about) the digital-invasion/nature-deficit impact that is happening on your children?
- Are you very concerned (and ready to do something about) the loss of social skills, courage, thinking-skills, and health/wellness that you see declining in your children’s lives?
- Do you feel overwhelmed to tackle these problems alone and want to join up with other parents who are just as committed as you are to unplugging their families and giving their children an advantage their generational peers won’t have?
Then this retreat is designed for YOU.
Does this sound familiar?
Grandparents who see it in their grandchildren...
You notice the stark difference in your childhood and their's. They’re glued to a screen all day and missing out on childhood joys in nature… the joys you experienced as a child: splashing in creeks, tasting honeysuckle, overcoming risky moments with courage and calculated wisdom… and you know the lasting impact that device is having on your grandchildren’s lives. All these hours each day on a device is stealing from them, both now and later, but they do not see it: the parents and your grandchildren do not realize the costly exchange they’re making in trading the natural world for the digitial world. |
Parents that feel trapped...
You feel trapped, forced to stay “plugged in” because of your work-situation or business; forced to encourage your children to spend more and more time in devices because of our culture’s technology-based competitive environment your children are growing up in and the social pressures of being present on snap-chat, Facebook, or Instagram. You feel trapped: aware that you are sacrificing the quality and depth of your relationship with your children, relinquishing the level of influence your have on your child’s thoughts, beliefs, and emotions…. but you're trapped: not enough time in the day...it’s the only thing that will “keep them busy” long enough to give you the time you need to get the things done you have to do. |
Hijacked minds...
Besides, once you’ve become “spoiled” with the ease of technology’s babysitting services---for example the quiet car rides when child is glued to the television (no more arguing, fighting, and bickering in the back seat---but then again, no more singing, curious questions asked from sights out the back window, silly games parents and children play from front seat to back seat on those long-distance rides, books on tape or parent reading aloud…all those have died with the dawn of the back seat screen.) Or even tougher—once your children have become “spoiled” with the dopamine-response and cerebral hijacking of technology’s power, self-entertainment seems overwhelming without a device in hand—whining, complaining, boredom, getting into mischief, and falling quickly into depression—these are the consequences that buckle the knees of the parent to comply.

Here's what will happen in your life after this retreat...
Less stress and more joy.
You'll wake up and actually see the colors in the sunrise, feel your child's soft cheek under your lips, and savor the sound of their laughter. This is the day to be alive, fully alive, and awake. You'll learn to create healthy boundaries without feeling like you're missing out. You'll be able to say "no" so that you can say "yes" to the most important people and goals in your life. You'll have peace and joy in these crazy times without becoming a recluse or living in defeat. You'll start controlling stress instead of it controlling you. |
Stronger family connections.
Imagine what could happen if... ... you and your spouse were equipped with the tools you need to take your family to the next level of health and wellness ... you sat around the dinner table talking and laughing each night without interruptions from a ringing, beeping, dinging phone ... you understood the "why" behind the many decisions you make on a daily basis for your family ... you had clarity about the value and worth of your life, your spouse, and your children's lives... ...the world would change. |
Thriving in a digitally-invaded, nature-deficit world.
You're going to learn how to play outside again without fear or boredom. You'll be able to enjoy and have fun with your children without getting behind or being interrupted by the technology around us. You will give your children one of the greatest gifts of their childhood---real, meaningful memories with the people they love the most. |
